As the opening date for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games draws closer, more projects are being completed by the city to prepare for the Games. The latest is the Richmond Olympic Oval, which opens recently, remarkably 14 months ahead of Vancouver 2010 Games time.
Built by the City of Richmond, the $178-million project [planning, organizing and financing by VANOC] will host the long track speed skating competition for the 2010 Games on its 400-metre track. The massive structure, a venue showpiece under construction since late 2005, has soaring arches and huge windows with uninterrupted views from sea to sky on the shores of the Fraser River. The spectacular facility is so large it could hold four airliners on its main activity floor and seat about 8,000 spectators.
Tickets for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games were on sale on the internet at Craigslist and eBay for as high as $2,500 each when first available. Opening ceremony tickets were going at $2,000 a piece. They are a rare commodity and many are willing to part with several thousand dollars for a couple of tickets and still no luck.
