On February 12, 2009, the Today Show’s Meredith Viera, Matt Lauer, Ann Curry, Al Roker and Natalie Morales kicked off NBC’s coverage of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games in celebrating the one-year/365 day countdown to the opening ceremony.

At exactly one year before the Vancouver 2010 ceremonies begin Seabus, West Coast Express, Canada Place and Grouse Mountain celebrate in their own unique ways.
You hear the Seabus sound off first, followed by Canada Place’s horn. The Seabus sound’s it’s horn a second time, and ever quietly you hear the ringing of the West Coast Express train bell. While in time lapse (it took 20 minutes), you see skiers with flares race down the Grouse Mountain peak and the “cut” before opening 24hrs for 3 days non-stop.
I can’t wait for the opening ceremonies to begin!

Bus signs, Six OClock Shout kick off the Countdown 2 Gold!
Thursday, February 12th is an important date for Metro Vancouver. It marks the start of the one year countdown to the beginning of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Such a milestone deserves a little noise or a lot of noise. So at 6 pm, Thursday, Feb. 12, all SkyTrain passengers will be encouraged to MAKE SOME NOISE. A pre-recorded announcement just prior to 6 pm will remind people to take part. Horns, cowbells, tambourines, even those little paper things you blow at parties that roll out and annoy people next to you by tickling them under the nose will be welcome.
All West Coast Express trains en route at the time will also blow their whistles at 6 pm, so people living and working along the WCE route should be aware that the whistles will sound in an unusual circumstance. Both SeaBuses will also join in the noisy event, blasting their horns at four bells of the first dog watch.
Coast Mountain Buses will help get into the Olympic Spirit, too. Beginning Thursday, the route destination signs will alternate with the words, Countdown 2 Gold. As the year progresses, the messages Go Team Canada and Go Canada Go will also be displayed.
The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games provide a unique opportunity for Metro Vancouver to welcome the world, and TransLink and its family of companies are excited and honoured to be part of it.
