Vancouver 2010

Posted in vancouver 2010

As the opening date for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games draws closer, more projects are being completed by the city to prepare for the Games. The latest is the Richmond Olympic Oval, which opens recently, remarkably 14 months ahead of Vancouver 2010 Games time.

Built by the City of Richmond, the $178-million project [planning, organizing and financing by VANOC] will host the long track speed skating competition for the 2010 Games on its 400-metre track. The massive structure, a venue showpiece under construction since late 2005, has soaring arches and huge windows with uninterrupted views from sea to sky on the shores of the Fraser River. The spectacular facility is so large it could hold four airliners on its main activity floor and seat about 8,000 spectators.

Tickets for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games were on sale on the internet at Craigslist and eBay for as high as $2,500 each when first available. Opening ceremony tickets were going at $2,000 a piece. They are a rare commodity and many are willing to part with several thousand dollars for a couple of tickets and still no luck. Have you got yours yet?

Walk & Talk Vancouver 2010 Olympics

Posted in 2010 olympic

A Walk and Talk along the seawall in Vancouver, addressing the 2010 Olympics by business analyst, author, and Olympic region impact expert Maurice Cardinal.

Politics is deeply ingrained in the Olympics, and as we saw at Beijing 2008, people everywhere are starting to understand the complex ramifications.

By the time Vancouver 2010 rolls average people around the world will have adopted a new and more ethical perspective regarding the Olympics, and Vancouver, hometown of Greenpeace and AdBusters, will be at the forefront of this change.

1.5 million people were forced from their homes in Beijing to make way for Olympic infrastructure and facilities, and the same thing, although to a much lesser extent, happened in Vancouver.

Thousands of marginalized people in Vancouver, up to 60% of them mentally ill, have been left homeless and living on the streets since Canada “won” the Olympic Bid in 2003.

As a result of controversies in China, people everywhere are no longer so easily “looking the other way” regarding human rights issues in Olympic regions.

After watching what happened in Beijing, people around the world are now calling for a more ethical Olympic Games, and many are speaking out and expecting Olympic sponsors like Visa, Coca Cola and RBC to do the same.

Well known people of influence like director Stephen Spielberg and actor and activist Mia Farrow have taken a strong stand and clearly voiced their positions and concerns regarding Olympic ethics.

Unfortunately, athletes still “look the other way.”

That will soon change however when Olympic athletes realize that ignoring human rights issues will devalue endorsements and erode the brands of Olympic sponsor companies.

The time has come to not only protect their investment, but to also to take the moral high road and do the right thing.

Posted in 2010 schedule

or can someone just post it.
i heard it was out, just not the dates. all i want to know is who's playing who.

Since some of it depends upon the final standings, it can not be decided until the season is over.

Do you think Canada will qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa?

Posted in canada 2010

I had the privillege of attending Canada vs. Brasil on May 31st/2008 and Canada lost a nail biter 3-2.

Canada played great and I was thinking if we play like this we should be able to qualify?
We also recently beat Ghana, the top ranked african nation 4-0.

They have a shot, but Mexico, USA, and teams like Costa Rica and jamaica are still a lot better. You guys have some good players, but I think you will come up short.

How do I apply for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Tennis?

Posted in 2010 games

I live in Michigan and would be 14 years old then. How do i apply to play for the United States Team.

You START by joining a TENNIS CLUB because anyone in the Olympics in any venue MUST be sponsored by a recognized CLUB or organization within that field

You START by entering tournaments and WINNING them… you won't even get a second look if you don't have a string of WINS in recognized TENNIS TOURNAMENTS and,. by the time you are trying out for the Olympics, you should be well on your way to having an established TROPHY ROOM and a RANKING

You START by playing tennis about 8 hours EACH DAY EVERY DAY between now and the 2010 Olympics.

Still interested?
